family therapy

A group of dandelions representing family online therapy.

family therapy benefits larger family units, which can include couples, parents/children, siblings, blended families, or intergenerational family units.  family therapy is often used to support parent-child relationships.

parenting is demanding, and managing difficult child behaviour can increase family stress and decrease family functioning.  communicating with young people and guiding behaviour can create challenges.  as children grow and mature, these communication issues can intensify.

i support families by building understanding between family members, and increasing each member's responsiveness to other family members experiences.  i work with parents on balancing understanding, while encouraging behaviour change of both parents and young people.  i also support young people in better understanding their emotions, family dynamics and building more effective communication tools.

family therapy can also take the form of parent coaching.  this is an effective intervention for parents of younger children who need support in building behaviour strategies.  parent coaching can help parents build the skills of positive parenting strategies.
